Marlon Williams.

He’s a singer, he’s a songwriter, and he’s back with another tour. Cantabrian Marlon Williams is heading to Wellington’s St James Theatre with ‘Te Whare Tīwekaweka, the album tour of Aotearoa’. The concert is designed to showcase his latest studio album ‘Te Whare Tiwekaweka’. The audience will be among the first to hear a slew of newly released songs from the man himself. This is Marlon’s fourth studio album and his first Māori language album.

Marlon spent five years creating this music. Throughout this time he reconnected to family and friends in Lyttelton. The ten years prior, he travelled the world establishing his career. His journey developing his ancestral tongue unlocked both a newfound lyrical honesty and a grand sonic vision. Marlon says “Through the process of constructing these songs, I’ve found a means of expressing my joys, sorrows, and humour in a way that feels both distinctly new yet also connects me to my and my .”

Supporting Marlon is long-time touring band The Yarra Benders. The evening will take you through a collection of both contemporary and timeless music. Marlon’s familiar folk-country-bluegrass territory is still present, but influenced by pop and rhythms inherent in Māori music.
