They influenced the sound of the 90s. American alt-rock band Pixies formed in 1986. Their jarring pop sound draws from punk rock and surf rock. Still popular more than 35 years later, they are heading to the St James Theatre for a two-night residency. In a unique twist, they’ll present two different concerts. On the first night, they’ll play two 90s classic albums in their entirety – ‘Bossanova’ and ‘Trompe Le Monde’. For the second night, they’ll play from their new album ‘The Night The Zombies Came’ plus other songs from their catalogue.

Pixies are known for surreal lyrics, wild shifts in song structure, and dynamic contrast. They are said to have influenced other 90s bands like Nirvana, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, and Weezer. Their tenth, and most recent album, ‘The Night the Zombies Came’ was received with critical acclaim. United Kingdom music magazine DIY stated, “Pixies remain one of the most consistent, influential bands on the planet.”
