Restaurant suggestions for large groups

Wellington has a range of dining options suitable to host large groups.

  • Coco at the Roxy (up to 100 people) — a mid to high-range restaurant serving modern New Zealand cuisine in a luxuriously restored 1928 cinema. Canape, cocktail, banquet, and buffet menus are available.
  • Rata Café (up to 130 people) — a relaxing lunch spot overlooking the reservoir of urban ecosanctuary, Zealandia. Canape-style or seated lunch menus are available.
  • Dockside (up to 150 people) — enjoy a mid-high range, seafood-based menu in a stunning harbourside location.
  • Shed 5 (up to 160 people) — one of Wellington’s premier seafood restaurants, housed in an old wharf store on the waterfront. The main dining room caters for 160 people, and a dedicated function menu changes regularly.
  • Monsoon Poon (up to 200 people) — a mid-range, halal-friendly Southeast Asian fusion restaurant in a fun and casual dining space. A great selection of banquet menus are available.
  • Shed22 (up to 230 people) — enjoy casual pub dining in a relaxed waterfront location, next to Te Papa.

Restaurant suggestions for small to medium groups

If your client is looking for something more intimate, Wellington has a variety of smaller private dining rooms to choose from.

  • Bellamys (six to 60 people) — experience fine dining in the iconic Beehive building. Reservations with all guest names are required.
  • Logan Brown (10 to 12 people) — an award-winning restaurant set in a stunning 1920s banking chamber. A 10 to 12 seat dining room is available for hire and your choice of special group set menus.
  • Boulcott Street Bistro (10 to 16 people) — enjoy classic bistro fare in a cute Victorian cottage. An upstairs private dining room seats 10 to 16 (not wheelchair accessible).
  • Ortega Fish Shack & Bar (up to 32 people) — fabulous service and a menu focused on fresh New Zealand seafood. Four fixed-price set menus are available, as well as an a la carte menu.
  • Shed 5 (15 to 60 people) — one of Wellington’s premier seafood restaurants, housed in an old wharf store on the waterfront. A private dining room caters for 15 to 60 seated, and a dedicated function menu changes regularly.
  • St John’s (20 to 35 people) — serving mid-high range modern New Zealand cuisine in a 1930s art deco building. Choose from the restaurant, two private rooms and a waterfront courtyard.
  • Foxglove (24 to 40 people) — take in vintage glamour and sweeping waterfront views from a variety of spaces including a Champagne Bar and Games Room.
  • Dockside (18 to 80 people) — enjoy a mid-high range, seafood-based menu in a stunning harbourside location. A small private dining room seats 18, and an upstairs restaurant (not wheelchair accessible) seats 80.
