Almost all of Wellington’s hotels are in the downtown area, so your clients are never far from the action. While halal visitors are welcome at all hotels, here are a few that are well-suited to cater to specific halal needs and can arrange halal food and prayer mats/markers if requested in advance:

Islamic Centres and Masjid

There are four mosques in the Wellington region.

• Wellington Masjid: 7 Queens Drive, Kilbirnie.
• Newlands Islamic Centre: 40 Bracken Road, Newlands.
• Lower Hutt Islamic Centre: 14-20 Hunter Street, Lower Hutt.
• Porirua Islamic Centre: 58-60 Waihora Crescent, Porirua.

Halal restaurants

Wellington is New Zealand’s culinary capital, and all tastes are catered for. There are a range of Southeast Asian halal restaurants as well as a few Western restaurants with halal food available on request:

• Higher Taste — vegetarian and vegan Indian cuisine available at two locations
• Aunty Mena’s — vegetarian restaurant & café with halal food on request
• Istana Malaysia — vegetarian, vegan and Halal friendly Malaysian
• Mother of Coffee — halal-friendly Ethiopian café and restaurant
• Great India — halal-friendly Indian restaurant
• Masala — Indian restaurant with halal food on request
• Logan Brown — award-winning western-style restaurant with halal food on request
• Charley Noble — wood-fired western-influenced, vegetarian and halal-friendly on request.

*Note, while some of these restaurants are Muslim-owned and/or Halal certified, others do serve alcohol and other non-Halal items.

Food Stores

If your clients would prefer to cook their own food, many local supermarkets sell halal brands which marked Halal on the packets. The following food stores stock halal certified meats:
