About the trail

Link Track is the main uphill trail for mountain bikers in Whareroa Farm Recreation Reserve. The trail zigzags up the hillside and connects to many other trails. Once you’re at the top, you can follow Link Track back down to the car park, or climb higher and head down Five Ways or Red Tape. Link Track has awesome views at the top and on most of the journey up.

Getting there

  • Link Track starts from Farm Race Track in Whareroa Farm. Whareroa Farm is located 3.5km north of Paekākāriki on the Kāpiti Coast.
  • From State Highway 1, take the Mackays Crossing exit to Queen Elizabeth Park. Parking is available for cars and buses at the entrance to the park.
  • There are regular train services from Wellington to the Kāpiti Coast. Timetables are available from Metlink.

Know before you go

  • Check Department of Conservation for alerts or closures before you visit.
  • Summer open hours: 8am to 9pm. Winter open hours: 8am to 6pm.
  • Take warm, waterproof clothing, durable footwear, sunscreen, food and water. Drinking water is not available on the farm.
  • Toilets are available at the Whareroa Farm car park and the top of Farm Race Track.
  • If you are venturing further into nearby Akatarawa Forest Park, go with someone who has been before. Remember to take a GPS compass and map, as signage is limited and cell phone coverage is patchy over the hill.
  • This reserve is a working farm, and some trails cross through paddocks with livestock. Be respectful, close gates behind you, and don’t bring dogs.
