About the trail

Five Ways Track is a steady uphill climb from Farm Race Track to Five Ways Lookout. It's a more direct route than the nearby Link Track.

The entrance to the Five Ways Track is just after the caravan and the Dell on Farm Race Track. The track winds up the hillside to a lookout with a picnic table and expansive views over Kāpiti.

Return via the same track or Link Track. If you're walking, extend your journey by connecting to the Connector Track and Campbell's Mill Road. From here, you can venture on to many other trails in the reserve.

Getting there

  • The trail connects to the Farm Race Track in Whareroa Farm You can also start it from halfway aong Campbell's Mill Road. Whareroa Farm is located 3.5km north of Paekākāriki on the Kāpiti Coast.
  • From State Highway 1, take the Mackays Crossing exit to Queen Elizabeth Park. Parking is available for cars and buses at the entrance to the park.
  • There are regular train services from Wellington to the Kāpiti Coast. Timetables are available from Metlink.

Know before you go

  • Get ready using Plan My Walk for track alerts, weather forecasts, trip reviews, and a packing list. For weather forecasts, check MetService.
  • Check Department of Conservation for alerts or closures before you visit.
  • Summer open hours: 8am to 9pm. Winter open hours: 8am to 6pm.
  • The track can be muddy underfoot, particularly in winter.
  • Take warm waterproof clothing, durable footwear, sunscreen, food and water. Drinking water is not available on the farm.
  • Toilets are available at the Whareroa Farm car park and at the top of Farm Race Track.
  • If you are venturing further into nearby Akatarawa Forest Park, go with someone who has been before. Remember to take a GPS compass and map, as signage is limited and cell phone coverage is patchy over the hill.
  • This reserve is a working farm, and some trails cross through paddocks with livestock. Be respectful, close gates behind you, and don’t bring dogs.
