A mountain biker sits at the end of a hill ridge on the Puketiro Loop track looking out towards the Pāuatahanui Inlet.

About the trail

Weave your way uphill through pine forests to the peak of the trail, where you can enjoy great views over the Pāuatahanui inlet and towards the South Island.

You must travel the Puketiro Loop in a clockwise direction, starting from The Dell car park. Follow the farm road through the airstrip and over Gas Line Ridge, towards Transmission Gully.

From there, follow the markers across the paddock to a stream and take the left-hand gate into the forest.

The track starts uphill through a pine plantation to the summit. Follow the track markers along the top heading south before continuing downhill back to Transmission Gully. You can get back to the car park over the Gas Line Ridge.
