About the trail

Take a stroll through grassy farmland and up to the Battle Hill summit and be rewarded with great views across Pāuatahanui.

Follow the signs detailing the historic 1848 battle between Ngāti Toa Māori and early colonial forces. Further along the trail you’ll see important historical sites and meet grazing sheep and cattle. Complete the loop by returning through the bush reserve.

  • The trail starts near the Battle Hill Forest Park campground, beside a sign overlooking the graveyard.
  • There are regular bus and train services to Porirua and the surrounding areas. Bus and train timetables are available from Metlink.
