Located 12 kilometres south of Wainuiomata, Catchpool Valley off Coast Road is the most popular entrance to Remutaka Forest Park.

Maintained by the Department of Conservation, the campground has facilities including toilets, showers, and gas barbeques. The Catchpool Centre is available to hire for functions and events, with up to 50 people. It has a 24-hour emergency telephone.

Nearby picnic areas along the Catchpool Stream provide sheltered spots to soak in the dense greenery.

There are walking tracks for all ages and fitness levels in Remutaka Forest Park. One popular option is the rail trail. Built in 1878, the route between the Hutt Valley and Featherston is now a gently graded 18-kilometre walk, run, or cycle. Along the way are opportunities for camping, swimming, and fishing.
