About the trail

Ikigai is a fun downhill trail that starts on Fenceline and runs down to the lower section of Transient. Cruise the trail or dial up the speed and take it fast.

The trail was built by Brooklyn Trail Builders with 2 years and 7 months of volunteer time. Ikigai is a Japanese word that roughly translates to the “realisation of the life one expects and hopes for”. It sums up many of the values the volunteer trail builders aspire to.

Getting there

  • The entrance to Ikigai sits between Sawmill and the top of Roller Coaster. It ends 2.4km downhill near the big pylon on Transient.
  • The easiest access is from Sawmill off Ashton Fitchett Drive in Brooklyn. Turn right at the top of Sawmill and follow Fenceline until you find the Ikigai signpost (about 100m).

Know before you go

  • Ikigai crosses three other trails on the way down. The crossings are clearly sign posted.
  • Ikigai is a downhill only mountain bike trail. If you are wanting to ride uphill, try Transient — an uphill only mountain bike trail.
