A smiling person with pink hair holds a child up, surrounded by blossoming cherry trees at Blossom Valley at Aston Norwood Gardens in Kaitoke, Upper Hutt, New Zealand.

Aston Norwood is home to Aotearoa’s highest number of mature cherry blossom trees. Each year the garden hosts Blossom Valley, a celebration of spring coinciding with the blooming of the trees. With over 350 sakura trees, it’s a great family day — or night — out. Enjoy food, drinks, photo opportunities, and fan-favourite evening sessions.

This year, you can enjoy seeing the buds form, bloom, and then fall. Blossom Valley’s season is carefully scheduled around the natural blossoming, using data from previous years to inform the timing. The team do their best to ensure accuracy, but check their Facebook page for regular updates.

A favourite returning this year is the Blossom Valley After Dark experience. Spend an evening wandering through the gardens as the sun sets, and see the blossoms in a new light. Enjoy food and drink options not only under the blossoms but under the stars, too.

In Japan, Hanami, or ‘flower viewing’, festivals bring joy and optimism after a long winter. Add to your experience with the Sakura high tea, or one of the new culinary options. Enjoy the pink and white canopies while picking away at a grazing plate, or Devonshire tea.

Multi-day passes are available for those who wish to take more time to enjoy the blossoms.
