Wellington Regional Trails

About the park

Rewanui Forest Park is a series of short loop trails about 20 minutes from Masterton.

The trails through the native bush (also known as Richardson bush) are designed to visit as many of the big trees as possible. The Mount Clyde track is a steady climb to stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

The park is set on 334 hectare of land with native bush and pine forests. All journey times on the signs are generous and allow for plenty of rest stops along the way.

Maps of the tracks are available at the shelter near the main car park.

Getting there

From Masterton, follow Te Ore Ore Road towards the Castlepoint for 22 kilometres. Look for the Rewanui Forest Park sign, with the main car park 400 metres beyond it.

Know before you go

  • Maps of the tracks are available in the shelter at the main car park.
  • Take care during winter as the tracks can be muddy and slippery.
  • Take warm waterproof clothing, durable footwear, sunscreen, food and water.
  • A toilet is available at the start of Tōtara Loop/end of the Access Track.
  • Children might want to wear long pants. The tight tracks sometimes have sticks, burrs and the occasional stinging nettle.
