Shipwreck Trading

Shipwreck Trading is a treasure chest of marine salvage and collectables.

Positioned on the Seaview Marina, the quirky store stocks a huge collection of nautical-themed objects. You’ll find everything from furniture to brass fixtures and fittings, along with obscure seafarers’ uniforms. There’s old, new and everything in between. You could spend hours rifling through all the maritime oddities. Regardless of your budget, you’ll find something to take home.

The best sellers here are the copper and brass light fittings. These are sourced from a marketplace in India specialising in dismantling old ships. When they arrive in New Zealand, they’re cleaned, re-wired and repaired.

Opened in 2019, Shipwreck Trading is a passion project for owner Robert Baldock. Formerly a prop buyer, Robert uses his industry connections to collect and source products from New Zealand and around the world. His creativity is evident in every corner of the store. Pirate mannequins sit alongside cannon balls, and colourful artworks contrast against brass diving helmets.

Robert completed the store’s interior fit-out over just a few weeks. He used recycled apple crates and old wooden pallets to line the walls, creating the look and feel of a historic dockside.
