New Zealand Parliament Tours
Walk the corridors of power and see where New Zealand laws and policies are made.
The Beehive, Pipitea, Wellington
The hallowed halls of the Executive Wing of the New Zealand Parliament hold many secrets. Many don’t know that one of them is culinary. Bellamys restaurant resides in the Beehive (the colloquial name for the building). It’s where politicians, foodies, locals, and visitors can dine in style. The fine dining restaurant in the east foyer is open for lunch and dinner. The a la carte menu makes high-quality food approachable. Each dish highlights incredible local produce using seasonal ingredients. You will likely choose from Marlborough Sounds oysters, wild Fiordland venison, or South Island tahr and pork terrine. The accompanying drinks menu is carefully curated to complement the food.
Established in 1854 for Aotearoa’s first Members of Parliament, Bellamys is one of the oldest restaurants in the country. Until 2018, it was closed to the public, with only politicians and their guests able to eat there. It’s now accessible to anyone keen for an excellent food experience. The staff are proud to make the environment warm and welcoming. Bookings are not usually needed for lunch sittings and walk-ins are welcome. With a history of hosting generations of politicians and Prime Ministers, you never know who you might be dining alongside.
With a 160-year history, the restaurant has many stories. Despite several moves around the parliamentary precinct, it has retained some special features. You may be fortunate enough to enjoy your meal using crockery, table linen, and silverware originally shipped from Britain. This touch of nostalgia adds to your dining experience.
