Why Wellington

Wellington’s central location in the middle of the country is easy to get to. There are direct flights from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Gold Coast. Upon arrival, it’s only a short trip from the airport to most venues and hotels in the city.

There are many world-class venues to suit a range of event types. The newest addition, Tākina Wellington Convention & Exhibition Centre, sits in the central city.

It’s easy to tap into a wealth of forward-thinking ideas and experts to support your event. Wellington is home to the New Zealand Government. Many central government agencies and industry associations have head offices here.

Sitting between green hills and a sparkling harbour, Wellington is handy for delegates to get around. It’s a short stroll from hotels to conference venues like Tākina, and excellent dining and entertainment. It’s where vibrant hospitality mixes with nature and culture to create the perfect backdrop for inspiring events.

It’s all on your doorstep

Since Tākina opened its doors in June 2023 it has levelled up Wellington’s capacity to host national and international events. With 10,000sqm of flexible space available, Tākina adds to Wellington’s existing array of venues. It also creates new opportunities to deliver events on a scale the city hasn’t seen before.

But Wellington’s allure goes beyond the shiny new convention centre.

There is lots of choice for accommodation, all within a short walk from conference venues. There are five-star hotels with harbour views, as well as laidback, budget-friendly options.

The compact city is bursting with culture, history, nature, and cuisine. All walkable from venues and hotels, meaning delegates spend more time enjoying the city and less time in transit.

We have had so much fun in Wellington. The bars are great, the wine is fantastic, and the food is outstanding.

Larissa, The Advantage Conference delegate

Wellington serves up award-winning restaurants, great coffee, and local beer and wine. Plus you’ll find a jam-packed events calendar, a treasure trove of boutique shops, and a rich cultural and arts scene. The scenic waterfront and nature are on the doorstep, too.

There is something for every delegate in Wellington. Experience spectacular views over the city after a walk up Mount Victoria before the first session of the day. Or, visit the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa with new connections during a lunch break. At the end of the day, connect over cocktails and a delicious meal.

Delegates can add more to their conference agenda and leave feeling inspired with a fresh perspective.
