Government Buildings Historic Reserve

This beautiful 1876 building has a classic facade made of kauri built to simulate a stone style. Formerly the seat of NZ's government, it is now used as Victoria University's Law faculty. It's also the world's second largest wooden building. The Department of Conservation Visitor Centre is found in the ground floor and provides information on National and Forest Parks as well as Kapiti Island bookings. A self-guided tour allows visitors access to displays, interpretation rooms and the cabinet room. Tours available.
